Dogs don’t judge

Today on Reagan’s early morning walk, we saw a boy standing at the bus stop with a shirt that said “I hate you.” The word hate was written in red and the kid just sat by himself on a huge rock on the corner of the street. He didn’t look like a very friendly kid at all and it had to have been his first day of school. Reagan was practically ripping my arm out of its socket to go say hi to him (I’m really strong) but I didn’t really want to go near the kid. I figured those kind of shirts are meant to repel people… And well, it was working…

Anyways, Reagan won out, mainly because his bus stop happened to be smack dab in the middle of our route. Eventually Reagan was at his feet. To my surprise, the kid actually smiled and pet her. I don’t know if this kid’s day was made. But for the sake of this story, I’m going to assume it was. Anyways I took something away from this moment…

Dogs don’t judge. People do.

I didn’t want to walk past this kid because he seemed like a total bully. Because of what? A shirt? If Reagan didn’t pull us down in his direction, we would have never walked that way. And that boy never would have smiled. I mean, who knows? What if that was his only smile of the day? I wish I hadn’t judged the kid on something so stupid as a shirt. But dogs see all people equally. And they definitely don’t judge by stupid sayings on a shirt.

What a sweet smiley photo. Dogs judge people on a whole different level. They don’t love everyone and they have their reasons, but they make their decisions based on facts they can smell or sense, not on looks or shirts.
